This is the page where I tell you a little bit about my interest in electronics, which is related to my interests in radio and computers. However since there are some differences I am making a separate page to go into some of the details.

My interest in electronics started when I took my first electronics shop class during my first year in high school. The first thing we had to learn in that class was how to solder and that is a skill that has served me well in the years since that time. During the subsequent classes I learned the basics of electronics and electronic assembly including the assembly of several kits and projects. During high school I also took a class in programming computers on FORTRAN.

The next step in my electronics odessy was when I joined the US Navy, I was 17 at the time. I joined in teir Advanced Electronics Program and in their program they send you to technical school for 2 years in exchange for 4 years of service in the fleet. The training was very extensive with a lot of electronic theory, troubleshooting to the component level, as well as radio, radar, IFF, and computers. It was during my time in electronics technician school that I got my first Amateur Radio license.

After successfully completing the 2 years of school I went on to serve on the USS Ranger, NAS Whidbey Island, and the USS Constellation.

While I was at Whidbey Island I worked on land mobile radio equipment (base police, fire, etc. radios), air to ground communications equoipment, and RADAR. I also got my FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License which gave me commercial operating priviledges to go along with Amateur Radio. I still hold this license today.

While I was on the USS Constellation I worked on the Flight Deck Communications system as well as HF (2 - 30 Mhz) communications equipment.

After I was discharged from the Navy after 6 years I spent the next part of my career working in Land Mobile Communications and consumer electronics.
